March 24 is World TB Day

Pakistan, like the rest of the world, celebrates World TB Day on March 24, with the aim of raising public awareness about diseases such as TB. Organizes events and seminars on TB to inform patients and the public about TB treatment and the latest research being done on it, until recently TB was a symbol of fear in the country. Was understood and described, and the TB patient was viewed with disgust by the majority of his family and was considered untouchable, so the majority of people did not even seek treatment.

The majority of patients were left to fend for themselves, leading to alarming deaths among TB patients. As a result, people are now preferring to treat the patient instead of staying away from him. Measures are being taken to ensure that free TB treatment is now available for TB patients under the TB control program in government hospitals in districts, tehsils, and villages across the country. Relevant tests are also being conducted officially in every district and tehsil level hospital without any compensation.

According to official data, one-third of the world's population is directly or indirectly affected by the disease. According to the census, the total number of registered TB patients in Pakistan is 369,548, including 5,215 in Azad Kashmir, 10,333 in Balochistan, 4,753 in FATA, 43,598 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 220,775 in Punjab, and 220,775 in Sindh. 80061, 4753 patients from Gilgit-Baltistan and 1897 patients from Northern Areas, who have been treated and are being treated at the government level, and these patients were registered under the TB.control program.

Dr. Sikandar Hayat Warraich, Senior Chest Specialist and In-Charge of Isolation Ward, District Teaching Headquarters Hospital, Sargodha, sheds light on TB and says that TB is a contagious disease that affects the common lungs but does not affect any part of the body. TB has a history of 4,000 years, Egyptian mummies also showed signs of the disease, according to the report, about two billion people (about a third of the world's population) TB germs According to the World Health Organization, 9 million people are infected with TB worldwide each year, and TB kills 2 million people each year.

Along with malaria and HIV, TB is now one of the most contagious diseases in the world. When a patient with this disease coughs or sneezes, close and prolonged contact is required to get this disease. Symptoms include coughing for more than two weeks, mild fever and sweating, loss of appetite, weight gain. These include loss of blood in the sputum and bleeding with saliva. In case of these symptoms, the patient can go to the nearest health center or government hospital and start treatment after getting a sputum test and X-ray.

The disease is more prevalent in people who have lived in the same family with people infected with TB or have been in contact with the patient for a long time, and also in people who are unhealthy or in crowded places. This may include people who are homeless or living in a polluted environment or children of parents who have had TB before. The disease also affects drug addicts and heavy drinkers and those who eat less food, and if someone is diagnosed with TB, the patient.

And family need not worry because TB is now treatable. The disease is endemic and the National TB Control Program and the World Health Organization have developed DOTS treatment under which such patients are being provided free medicines from all government hospitals in the country for 6 to 8 months without any break.

Dr. Sikandar Hayat Warraich says that the most important and effective way to prevent the spread of TB in the country is to identify the infected patient as soon as possible and to ensure that the patient is using the course of his medicine properly. ۔ Because the patient has to start the course anew if the treatment is left incomplete.

positive results can be obtained from the patient's encouragement and better diet during the treatment, the pregnant mother can breastfeed her baby during the treatment, this There will be no adverse effects on the child's health. There is a need for us to pledge on the occasion of World TB Day that we will volunteer our efforts at the governmental and semi-governmental levels to eradicate TB. Will be overcome
